http://www.clearwire.com Clearwire
provides wireless internet service into your house or business and you can
have either a static or dynamic IP address. Coverage areas include
Modesto, Stockton,
- An "IP
Address" consists of the actual numerical address that points
to your web site on the internet. Even though we all usually type in a
Domain Name to access a site, this name is really being translated and
sent to a Numerical Address. Surprisingly, most web hosts use
either dynamic or shared IP addresses for your web site, both of which
have their faults! A Dynamic Address
will change all the time, and will require constant updates to all the
major address servers world wide. (These Address Servers are the
machines that keep the lists of domain names and their corresponding
numerical address.) This means that until these servers update the
information, your visitors may see the old version of the site, or not
see it at all until the updates play "catch-up". Not a good situation.
A Shared IP means that your files are
actually located in a sub folder of the Hosts data, and everyone on the
hosting service shares the same actual numerical address. The Host then
has to re-route the web browser request to the correct domain name to
display your site. This results in slower loading web sites, since there
is a lot of manipulation and re-routing going on all the time. This
becomes even more obvious if the host system and all it's sub-domains
are busy. Plus, if there ever is a problem with the main IP address or
Domain, the entire system goes offline - every client is left without a
site until the problem is resolved! Also not a good situation. A
static IP address is a numeric IP address that does not change.
Typically, cable modems and DSL connections have static IP addresses, as
do some dialup accounts. Those with a static IP address do not have the
problem of a having a Palace address that constantly changes, but they
may still want to use a redirection service to have a domain name that
is themed to their Palace. One thing to be aware of is that with a
static IP address, your account will never need updating, but if 35 days
transpire and you don't update the database, your account will expire.
Expiration times may vary at other redirection services.

Kaiser Notes
- Kaiser — will open its Modesto hospital in 2007
- Jerry Fleming, a Kaiser senior vice president and health plan manager,
acknowledged that Kaiser premiums on average have jumped about 10 percent
per year the past two years, emphasizing that increases vary depending on
the buyer's use of services
- There are roughly 130,000 Kaiser subscribers in the Modesto area
- Kaiser Permanente's market share has grown steadily in the Sacramento
region; with nearly 647,000 members, it owns 34 percent of the market, up
from 26percent a decade ago
- Mostly, Kaiser doctors are paid an annual salary that does not depend on
the number of patients they see or on the cost of the procedures they
perform.
- Kaiser boasts the largest neurosurgery department in the Sacramento
region, for example, with nine surgeons and two interventional
neuroradiologists
- Kaiser still has its limitations. It sends its heart surgery patients to
Mercy hospitals in Sacramento. Some of the most complex neurosurgeries are
done at the University of California at Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
And patients needing organ transplants are sent to the Bay Area
- Kaiser pledged to have at least
one nurse for every four patients in most care units. That's a significant
improvement over the one-to-ten ratio being promoted by a number of the
state's leading hospital group.
- Officials are hopeful that a 14
percent increase in nurse's salaries will help lure new employees to Kaiser.
- Kaiser has more than six million
members and more than 55,000 employees
Liposuction equipment
-
Liposuction is a procedure that can help
sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the
abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck.
During the past decade, liposuction, which is also known as "lipoplasty" or
"suction lipectomy," has benefited from several new refinements. Today, a
number of new techniques, including ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL),
the tumescent technique, and the super-wet technique, are helping many
plastic surgeons to provide selected patients with more precise results and
quicker recovery times. Although no type of liposuction or tummy tuck is a
substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas
of fat that don't respond to traditional weight-loss methods.

UC Merced (University of California
in Merced) Medical School Project (some notes)
- Dr. Tammy Wu (Plastic surgery) and Dr. Calvin Lee (general
surgery) hope to participate in this ambitious project of bringing a new
medical school to the central valley (UC Merced Medical School)
-
http://www.sacunion.com/pages/sacramento/articles/8005/ highlights
below:
- University of California, Merced wants to add a medical school to help
increase the number of physicians in the Central Valley
- Bakersfield to Sacramento lags every other region in the state in health
care, with 30 percent fewer physicians and half as many specialists for its
population
- plans to get approval for a new medical school could take several years,
followed by another five to seven years to open a school, said the project’s
leader, Maria Pallavicini, UC Merced’s dean of natural sciences
- The medical school is estimated to cost between $50 million and $60
million a year to operate
-
http://www.fresnobee.com/local/story/11886457p-12656886c.html highlights
below:
- Carol Tomlinson-Keasey, chancellor of UC Merced, has embarked on a
campaign to build awareness of the need for the medical school and to help
raise the estimated $100 million the school could cost
- Doctors who do stay in California tend to migrate to the coast
- University of California research shows that in 2004 alone, Fresno,
Merced, Stanislaus and Mariposa counties lost more than $845 million when
insured patients went outside the area for medical care they couldn't find
close to home
- Statewide, there are only eight medical schools, and the last to be
built, the UC Davis School of Medicine, graduated its first students in 1972
- Since that time, California's population has nearly doubled, according
to the U.S. Census Bureau
- Tomlinson-Keasey said the population growth has led officials at both UC
Merced and UC Riverside to begin work on building medical schools. She said
there is enough need in California for medical professionals to justify both
campuses
- Dr. Anmol S. Mahal, a Fremont surgeon and president-elect of the
California Medical Association, said his organization supports more medical
training in California and would like to see medical schools open at both
campuses
- Dr. Mahal said building medical schools in underserved areas such as the
Central Valley or Riverside is the only way to bring in additional doctors
and to keep them where they are needed
- There is enough data to prove that when people are trained in an area,
they are more likely to stay in that area
-

March 5, 2006, highlights below:
- University of California at Merced officials plan to make a pitch for a
medical school at a UC Board of Regents health committee meeting this spring
- UC Merced could have a medical program running in partnership with a
variety of valley hospitals by 2012
- Pallavicini and UC Merced Chancellor Carol Tomlinson-Keasey are taking
their plan on the road over the next two months with public meetings from
Modesto to Bakersfield
- It centers on creating academic classes for the first two years of a
four-year medical school, and then sending students to valley hospitals for
hands-on experience
- Pallavicini said pursuing a valleywide program is more practical than
building a "bricks and mortar" medical center because it would use the
valley's existing resources, and it would save the UC the $100 million it
would take to build a hospital
- She has a receptive ear among valley doctors, who see a new school as a
means to increase the number of physicians in the area, and to reverse the
flow of patients seeking care in the Bay Area and Southern California
- In 2002, California had 15.6 medical students per 100,000 residents,
compared with a national average of 27.1, according to a 2004 report from
the University of Albany's Center for Workforce Studies
- The UC has medical schools at its Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, San Diego
and San Francisco campuses
- Peter Broderick, director of the Stanislaus family residency program at
Doctors Medical Center, said he'd like to see a medical program at UC Merced
cultivate interest in health careers at local high schools
- Assemblywoman Barbara Matthews, D-Tracy, said legislators likely would
respond well to a plan that would bring more medical services to the San
Joaquin Valley
- Christine Noguera, deputy director of the Golden Valley Health Centers
in Merced and Stanislaus Counties, said those opportunities are long
overdue. "Our valley needs more physicians who are committed to
staying in the valley, and we definitely need opportunities for students
from the valley to stay in the valley," she said
