{"id":1070,"date":"2014-05-11T17:03:48","date_gmt":"2014-05-11T17:03:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/surgerytoday.com\/education\/?p=1070"},"modified":"2014-05-11T17:06:37","modified_gmt":"2014-05-11T17:06:37","slug":"how-long-does-it-take-to-become-a-surgeon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/surgerytoday.com\/education\/how-long-does-it-take-to-become-a-surgeon\/","title":{"rendered":"How long does it take to become a Surgeon?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are many different ways to measure this length of time for surgery training and surgery education. \u00a0I was just wondering these same things as I reflect on my surgical experience. \u00a0I was also wondering how long it might take me to become a pianist. \u00a0Perhaps my musings might help others. \u00a0First I should say that I am very grateful to all my teachers.<\/p>\n<p>I currently practice in a <a title=\"Modesto plastic surgery\" href=\"https:\/\/surgerytoday.com\">Modesto Plastic Surgery<\/a> setting with my wife, Dr. Tammy Wu, Modesto Plastic Surgeon.<\/p>\n<p>I had posted this comment on my <a title=\"Modesto FaceBook Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/modesto\">Modesto FaceBook page<\/a>, but I thought I&#8217;d share these educational duration thoughts here:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It took me 10 years of diligent study to become a semi-proficient VIOLINIST. It took me 17 years to become a competent full fledged SURGEON. I wonder how long it would be if I attempted to tackle piano.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #37404e;\">Notes:\u00a0<\/span><br style=\"color: #37404e;\" \/><span style=\"color: #37404e;\">1) Violin years determined by age started (7) and age with performance-readiness of the Tchaikovsky violin concerto. \u00a0My Tchaikovsky violin concerto &#8211; see below.<\/span><br style=\"color: #37404e;\" \/><span style=\"color: #37404e;\">2) Surgery years determined by starting with the first year of accep<\/span><span class=\"text_exposed_show\" style=\"color: #37404e;\">tance into Brown University&#8217;s Medical Education program and the year where I became a full fledged board certified surgeon. This duration of time is 17 years after high school.<br \/>\n3) I learned piano briefly when I was little, but then switched to violin, dropping all piano lessons. I had to focus.
