{"id":188,"date":"2013-04-30T06:34:56","date_gmt":"2013-04-30T06:34:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/surgerytoday.com\/education\/?p=188"},"modified":"2013-05-12T03:32:08","modified_gmt":"2013-05-12T03:32:08","slug":"2012-plastic-surgery-statistics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/surgerytoday.com\/education\/2012-plastic-surgery-statistics\/","title":{"rendered":"2012 Plastic Surgery Statistics Report by ASPS: Top procedures &#038; Top age groups"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Growth and statistics of Plastic Surgery and it&#8217;s relation to our practice in Modesto, CA<\/h3>\n<p>ASPS (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.plasticsurgery.org\/\">American Society of Plastic Surgeons<\/a>) Released its 2012 Plastic Surgery Statistics Report.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the key highlights of the report as it relates to our Plastic Surgery Practice in Modesto: Surgical Artistry led by Dr. Tammy Wu, MD Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and member of the ASPS.<\/p>\n<p>At the bottom of this post, I compare my own minimally invasive cosmetic procedure (ie. Botox, Veins, Fillers, chemical peels, microdermabrasion) data from Modesto, CA to the national ASPS data. \u00a0I am not an ASPS member. \u00a0Only Dr. Tammy Wu is an ASPS member.<\/p>\n<p>All statistics here is 2012 vs 2011 data from the ASPS.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Cosmetic Procedures For 2012:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Cosmetic Procedures: \u00a0Cosmetic Surgeries vs. Minimally Invasive Procedures:<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Cosmetic Surgeries were down 2%<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Minimally invasive cosmetic procedures were up 6%<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">But both considered procedures, there&#8217;s an overall increase of 5%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Plastic Surgery is growing equally for men and women<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Cosmetic procedures performed on men and women are up a total of 5%<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Men make up 9% of all cosmetic procedures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Procedures Statistics<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Botox is up 8%<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Fillers (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\">Juvederm, Perlane, Restylane, Radiesse<\/a>) are up 5%<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/surgerytoday.com\/modesto-plastic-surgery\/modesto-chemical-peels\/index.htm\">Chemical peels<\/a> up 2%<\/li>\n<li>All Minimally invasive cosmetic procedures is up 6%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Breast Augmentation<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 14px;\">Continues to be the top cosmetic surgical procedure and has been since 2006.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Silicone implants were used 62% of the time (saline used 38%) in all <a href=\"https:\/\/surgerytoday.com\/tammywumd\/index.htm\">breast augmentation<\/a> in 2012<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>2012 Top 5 cosmetic Surgical Procedures<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 14px;\">Breast augmentation down 7%<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Nose reshaping no change<\/li>\n<li>Eyelid surgery up 4%<\/li>\n<li>Liposuction up 1%<\/li>\n<li>Facelift up 6%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>2012 Top 5 cosmetic Minimally Invasive Procedures<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 14px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/surgerytoday.com\/modesto-botox\/index.htm\">Botox (Botulinum toxin type A)<\/a> up 8% (6.1 million injections)<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Soft tissue fillers up 5%<\/li>\n<li>Chemical Peel up 2%<\/li>\n<li>Laser Hair removal up 4%<\/li>\n<li>Microdermabrasion up 8%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Other Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Procedures<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Laser vein therapy is down -2%<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Sclerotherapy is up 1%<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Fat injections is down 8%<\/li>\n<li>Cellulite treatment is down 13%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Age Demographics: 40-54 years old<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 14px;\">40-54 year olds is the group that makes the majority of all cosmetic procedures<\/span><\/li>\n<li>48% of the total<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 1.142857143rem; line-height: 1.846153846; color: #993300;\">My own thoughts<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3>FaceBook targeted demographic ads for plastic surgeons<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 14px;\">It aids in marketing efforts. \u00a0Perhaps we could concentrate more around the age of 40-54 years olds in the marketing. \u00a0In FaceBook for example, ages could be targeted. \u00a0Thus selecting 40-54 as an age selection in FaceBook might be beneficial for plastic surgeons.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How does our Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Practice compare?<\/h3>\n<div style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/surgerytoday.com\/education\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/chart-of-grown-lee.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Chart of Dr. Lee's practice\" src=\"https:\/\/surgerytoday.com\/education\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/chart-of-grown-lee-300x293.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Growth of my minimally invasive Cosmetic practice in Modesto, CA from 2009-2012<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Bar 1 represents 2009, Bar 2 is 2010, Bar 3 is 2011, and Bar 4 is 2012 (last year) for my minimally invasive cosmetic surgery practice.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714;
